"Association Buyers not heavily impacted by procurement departments and events budgets for 2010 are maintained"

Bridget Baker Consulting and Moneypennies have collaborated to investigate the latest buying patterns of Association conference buyers. We conducted in-depth interviews with more than 20 of the leading UK based Associations in the spring and early summer of this year.
There were some very encouraging trends that are positive news for venues seeking to attract or increase their market share in this important segment. Well over half of buyers are holding the same number of events this year as 2009 and more than 20% are holding more. Also cheering news is that around two thirds have not had their events budgets reduced.
Important for the sales team at many venues is that most associations organise events in-house and very few are impacted by the decisions of a procurement department.
Virtual meetings have yet to replace any live events are not expected to in the near future. Aside from a large Annual Meeting many of the Associations continue to run extensive training programmes for their members.
Whilst day conferences predominate, around a third are for more than two days, signs that residential events have not totally vanished!
The Associations interviewed are largely London based but hold more than 500 conferences & events annually around the country and overseas. These attract almost 70,000 delegates a year.
